Good News - September 2010

Take A Hike, one of Thunder Bay’s most successful retail businesses, will be relocating their store in October to a 3,000 square foot space on Bay Street immediately across from the famous Hoito restaurant.

In a prepared media release store owner Diane Petryna said that she is excited about the move and opportunity for growth.

“The new location offers more retail space, good traffic, and ample, conveniently-located customer parking. The rich history, sense of community and growing vibrancy within the Bay & Algoma area were also important in our decision”, she said.  “In the meantime we have a lot of work to do.”

Take A Hike is a locally-owned outdoor lifestyle store that opened in 1996. For the past 14 years it has been located in downtown Fort William on corner of Brodie and Victoria. Petryna has been active in a number of neighbourhood, community and business initiatives.  She currently serves as an advisory member of the Retail Council of Canada’s independent retail division.

GOLD STAR Recognition Earned by Glacier Ridge Retirement Residence

The entire Team at Glacier Ridge have again worked hard to achieve the highest recommendations from the Ontario Residential Care Association (ORCA).  ORCA is a non-profit body that sets standards for their members in the Retirement Residence sector of Ontario. They follow a strict protocol to ensure members attain and keep those standards with annual or bi-annual accreditations based on their standings. Glacier Ridge met and exceeded the requirements this month reaching ORCA’s GOLD STAR commendation level for two years.

Glacier Ridge

Chartwell Senior Housing, who owns both Glacier Ridge and Chartwell Select, is proud to say that Chartwell owned residences are currently the only ones in Thunder Bay that support ORCA in the accreditation process. This is an important commitment as such standards as monitoring of health, social and physical wellbeing are documented daily and residents are part of the decision making process for the lifestyle they lead in ORCA accredited residences. This Award recognizes the excellence achieved by all Staff at Glacier Ridge.
